[C-L] Judge asked to reconsider voter ID decision

According to the Clarion Ledger, Attorney General Jim Hood along with the NAACP and the Mississippi Republican Party have requested that the federal judge reconsider his voter ID decision.

Pepper forbid any primaries from being held until the Legislature enacts party registration and photo identification. That is unlikely to occur before federal primaries in March 2008.

Hood also requested clarification on Peppers intentions to require voter ID for 2008 primaries.

The state Republican Party asked to be removed from PepperҒs decision, which applies to all party primaries. The GOP was never a party to the lawsuit.

The NAACP argued Pepper overstepped his bounds by requiring photo voter ID, a measure the organization has fought for years.

This ruling has kind of shown me what a mess the Democratic Party is in right now.

Ike Brown wrote a letter to the Clarion-Ledger--you may have seen it--in which he said that he didn’t mind voter ID anymore, and that this would be the last nomination of Jim Hood, among others.  He made sure to point out, in the letter, that he served on the party board.

I don’t know about Mr. Brown, but I’m proud to say that I hold the same view on voter ID that I held two weeks ago.

Cheers,

TH
