[PR] Charlie Ross Calls for Voter ID Special Session

[Verbatim Release] State Senator Charlie Ross today requested that the Governor call a special legislative session to address the issue of voter identification.  Mississippi does not currently require voters to show identification at the polls.

“No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, it is important that we secure the equal right to vote for every Mississippian,” Ross said.  “Voting is a fundamental civil right and right now it is one of the least secure public processes in Mississippi.”

Senator Ross said that action must be taken now to protect the right to vote in Mississippi.

“We must show ID to board a plane, join a health club, or rent a movie, so requiring that voters show identification at the polls is common sense to have fair elections for all Mississippians,” Ross said.  “I urge Governor Barbour to call this special session to ensure that every Mississippian has the equal right to vote.”

Senator Ross represents District 20, comprised of parts of Rankin and Madison Counties.
